Inverse Volume Rendering with Material Dictionaries

We present a system for measuring the bulk scattering properties---the phase function, scattering coefficient, and absorption coefficient---of a homogeneous volumetric material sample. The proposed system: (1) can be used for both solid and liquid materials; and (2) does not restrict the shape of the phase function.

    Inverse Bi-scale Material Design

We present a novel computational framework for inverse bi-scale material design. We demonstrate a variety of editing operations, including finding visually equivalent details that produce similar large-scale appearance, which can be useful in applications such as physical fabrication of materials.

Joint Importance Sampling of Low-Order Volumetric Scattering

We present novel Monte Carlo techniques for joint importance sampling of light transport paths in participating media. Our techniques importance sample the product of geometry and scattering terms along sequences of path vertices. We integrate them into path tracing, bidirectional path tracing, and many-light methods, demonstrating significant variance reduction.

Wave-Ray Coupling for Interactive Sound Propagation in Large Complex Scenes

We present a novel hybrid approach that couples geometric and numerical acoustic techniques for interactive sound propagation in complex environments.
