Keynote: Educational Institutions Serving as a Dynamo in a Growing Industry
10 years ago, when CG-heavy movies such as Lord of the Rings had already become part of mainstream movie entertainment, Singapore was still light years behind countries such as US and Canada in computer graphics. Back then not many people could imagine that Singapore could one day boast a CG industry and be a member of heavy weights in the CG and Entertainment industry, taking part in world-class projects.
Our challenge was not just to convert a community into an industry, we had to do it fast to get up to par with the global playing field, since technological and process advancement in this industry is astounding. And as availability of a strong local talent pool is often viewed as one of the deciding factors of success or failure of this industry, we had our work cut out for us. In this talk, I’d like to share with you our experiences. |
