On behalf of the ACM SIGGRAPH Asia 2013 Art Gallery, I wish to welcome you to our Hong Kong exhibition. To the dedicated jurors who helped in the selection of the artworks and the art papers presented and to the tireless organizers of the conference who facilitated the entire exhibition and in detail without whose hard work the Art Gallery Program could not be possible, thank you. To the artists involved, your dedication, creative and conceptual vision in artworks, performances and art papers, form the core meaning of the Art Gallery exhibition and the Art Papers, thank you for the tremendous effort you have made in traveling and bringing your artwork from all ends of the planet to Hong Kong.
It is a great honor and privilege to welcome you as part of this year’s exhibition in Hong Kong, creating a dynamic cross-cultural exchange for artists working with digitally mediated techniques. In the works and art papers on presented during this exhibition you will see an exceptional selection of works, juried by a set of experts from across the world, including museum-quality pieces by proven masters and new artworks by emerging artists. With half of the participating artists based in Asia and Asia-Pacific region and others from as far as South America, Europe and the United States, the SIGGRAPH Asia Art Gallery and Art Papers exhibition plays an essential role in the development and promotion of culture in contemporary society. This year’s Art Gallery features traditionally displayed wall mounted artworks, immersive stereoscopic installations, projected interactive display, robotic artworks, performance.
The newly initiated Art Papers program features theoretical discussion on philosophical aspects of culture and the arts. Along with a work curated by Tomoe Moriyama from the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo and in an attempt to engage the average citizen in Hong Kong a virtual public art exhibition curated by Arthur Clay and DAW International Zurich.
This year’s SIGGRAPH Asia is the result of tremendous effort by numerous dedicated people. The results promises to be memorable.
