    Industrial Light & Magic (Singapore) Presents: The Visual Effects of “Pacific Rim”

    From aliens that threaten Earth’s very existence to massive human-piloted robots, Nigel Sumner will discuss the wide-ranging scope of Industrial Light & Magic’s effects work on Guillermo del Toro’s science fiction epic “Pacific Rim.”

    The Academy Award winning visual effects house was the principle visual effects studio and they balanced almost 1500 shots across their studios in San Francisco, Singapore and Vancouver.

    Nigel Sumner joined Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) in 1999 as a Technical Director for the CG commercials division, transferring to the features division in 2000.

    In 2007, he was appointed Supervisor for the Digital Artists Group in Singapore where he spearheaded a collaborative effort with ILM's US counterparts on numerous feature films whilst building Singapore’s division for visual effects from scratch.

    At ILM Singapore, Nigel is responsible for the management and supervision of the digital artists, overseeing artist development as well as aesthetic and technical production processes. From 2007 to present he supervised Singapore’s work on over 12 feature projects including Marvel’s The Avengers and recently completed Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim.

    Don Wong

    Don Wong has been working in CG industry for nearly a decade. He got his start working on real-time content for games and then transitioned to live-action, eventually working on various Visual Effects and CG Animated productions throughout Asia like Shaolin Soccer, KungFu Hustle, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and AstroBoy.

    He joined Industrial Light & Magic Singapore (ILM) in 2010 as a FX Artist, contributing to projects such as Rango, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol , Marvel’s The Avengers and most recently completed Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim.
